Baseball Recap: Bernalillo Comes Up Short

Bernalillo extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 12-11. They lost 13-3 to the Hope Christian Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, with their most recent defeat being a 17-13 loss back in March.

Bernalillo saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ulisses Castro, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Hope Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Hope Christian, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Hope Christian's side, Jaden Wright spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Hope Christian got a massive performance out of Luciano Gabaldon, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Chastain, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Bernalillo will take on Del Norte at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.68 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hope Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Albuquerque Academy at 4:00 p.m. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season.
