Baseball Game Preview: Springville Tigers vs. Hayden Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Springville Tigers take on Hayden Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Springville's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Hayden's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Springville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over Hayden on Tuesday. Considering the Tigers have won five contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Carter Samuelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those two hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Grant Martinez and Ryan King did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while King scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave King a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kevin Jones, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Springville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. Hayden has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
