Whitwell and Bledsoe County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Whitwell Tigers will host the Bledsoe County Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Whitwell is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hixson.
Ella Grace Harvey put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Harvey was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Kasie Britton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Even though they lost, Whitwell lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bledsoe County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Tyner Academy a 12-0 shutout on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Warriors needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Bledsoe County let Macy Holland and Bailee McCauley run wild. Holland went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while McCauley scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-1. Those three RBI gave Holland a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cameran Tollett, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Bledsoe County's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Whitwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Bledsoe County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Whitwell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Bledsoe County, though, as they've only averaged .224. Will they be able to contain Whitwell's hitters?
Whitwell couldn't quite get it done against Bledsoe County when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 10-5. Can Whitwell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
