Softball Game Preview: Owensboro Catholic Aces vs. Franklin-Simpson Wildcats

The Owensboro Catholic Aces will head out to square off against the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.

Owensboro Catholic is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since April 21st on Tuesday. They lost 9-1 to Henderson County. The defeat continues a trend for the Aces in their meetings with the Colonels: they've now lost four in a row.

Hannah Tignor made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Maren Riney, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Franklin-Simpson entered their tilt with Bowling Green on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Purples by a score of 8-3.

Allie Utley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with six stolen bases and four runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last six contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Holland, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Woodall, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Franklin-Simpson's record now sits at 15-21. As for Owensboro Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13-2.
