Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Manteca's 11th in Last 12 Outings

Six must be Manteca's lucky number: they beat Ceres with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Buffaloes sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Bulldogs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Buffaloes also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2017.

Isabel Tonna tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, Sienna Owen and Ayva Wilkins did most of the damage at the plate: Owen went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Wilkins went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Owen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Cooper, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Manteca was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ceres only posted a batting average of .296.

Manteca is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Ceres, they moved to 15-8 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Manteca has already played their next match, an 8-6 win against Ben Holt College Prep Academy on the 25th. As for Ceres, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-3 loss against Enochs on the 25th.
