Baseball Recap: King Philip Regional Triumphs

King Philip Regional hadn't done well against Franklin recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 back in April.

Nate Pennini tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Tommy Gately was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Vinny Menendez, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

King Philip Regional's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Franklin, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

When King Philip Regional and Franklin next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Warriors will face off against Taunton and their five-game winning streak at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (King Philip Regional 2.1, the Tigers 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Franklin will try to stop Foxborough's four-game winning streak when they meet at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
