Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Maryvale

Maryvale made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Tempe, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Buffaloes on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Isabel Hernandez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing seven bases while going 1-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Valerie Campos was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Gianna Ramos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

The win was the third in a row for Maryvale, bringing their record up to 8-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tempe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Looking ahead, Maryvale is taking a road trip to take on Browne at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Tempe, they will welcome Coronado at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
