Preview: Coolidge Colts vs. Cardozo Clerks

The Coolidge Colts will head out on the road to square off against the Cardozo Clerks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Coolidge is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.

Last Wednesday, Coolidge faced Bell in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coolidge really took it to Bell for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-7 victory at home. With Coolidge ahead 36-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.

It was another big night for Josslyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Coolidge's points. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Cardozo, who are still winless after their fourth game. They were beaten by Anacostia 53-5 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Cardozo has suffered against Anacostia since January 6, 2017.

The win got Coolidge back to even at 8-8. As for Cardozo, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Coolidge came out on top in a nail-biter against Cardozo when the teams last played back in January of 2023, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coolidge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
