Football Game Preview: Southlake Carroll Dragons vs. V.R. Eaton Eagles

Southlake Carroll has gone a perfect 7-0 against V.R. Eaton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Dragons will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Southlake Carroll knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully V.R. Eaton likes a good challenge.

Southlake Carroll is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 63-28 win over Keller. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Angelo Renda had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 401 yards and five touchdowns while completing 80.8% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 300.8 passing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Blake Gunter, who picked up 191 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Another reason for the win was Southlake Carroll's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece. They received some extra help from Caden Mackey, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, V.R. Eaton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 34-31 win over Keller Central on Thursday. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Eagles were down 23-3 in the second quarter.

Southlake Carroll's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for V.R. Eaton, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Everything came up roses for Southlake Carroll against V.R. Eaton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 50-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
