Last Saturday, Westover didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Trinity Christian, but they still walked away with a 46-41 victory. Given Westover's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Trinity Christian is ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ja?Naisha Carney led the charge by scoring 11 points along with six steals. The match was Carney's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Rmani Robinson , who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Richmond has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 24 points or more this season. They took their contest at home on Monday with ease, bagging a 68-7 win over Southern Lee. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-3.
Jamyia Lindsey continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 26 points along with nine steals and five assists. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Richmond's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasiah Gilchrist, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Westover's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Richmond, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Westover might still be hurting after the 58-35 loss they got from Richmond in their previous matchup back in December of 2021. Can Westover avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
