Baseball Recap: Weslaco East Comes Up Short

After flying high against Juarez-Lincoln last Friday, Weslaco East came back down to earth. The Weslaco East Wildcats fell 8-5 to the Nixon Mustangs on Saturday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Eduardo Hernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Andres Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Weslaco East hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive games.

Weslaco East has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Nixon and bumps their season record up to 3-5.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Weslaco East Wildcats duke it out with Mercedes Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Weslaco East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Nixon, they will square off against Roma at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Roma will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Nixon surely won't give up without a fight.
