Baseball Recap: Prestonsburg Comes Up Short

Prestonsburg dropped down to 8-16-1 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Wheelersburg Pirates, falling 11-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Blackcats have suffered since April 18, 2025.

Prestonsburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Hall, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Wheelersburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Wheelersburg's side, Tanner Scior made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Scior a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Wheelersburg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Cameron Conn was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Wheelersburg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Brady Doss was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Prestonsburg will take on Frederick Douglass in a tournament on Saturday. As for Wheelersburg, they will take on Waverly at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
