Basketball Recap: South Summit Sets Scoring Season-High Against American Prep WV

South Summit is still undefeated this season after their matchup against American Prep WV on Friday, but American Prep WV came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Eagles 75-72. The Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

South Summit got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddox Welch out in front who posted 24 points. Another player making a difference was Joey Harris, who scored 19 points.

Despite the loss, American Prep WV still got an impressive performance from Marcus Versluis, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sharmaakay Mberwa was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 17 points and nine boards.

South Summit's record now sits at 4-0. As for American Prep WV, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, South Summit will take on Grantsville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be up against the Cowboys' rather soft defense (which has allowed 52 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for American Prep WV, they will face off against Salt Lake Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Griffins at the right time seeing as the Griffins are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
