Basketball Recap: Interlachen Comes Up Short

Interlachen and Newberry squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Interlachen had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Newberry Panthers 81-31. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 555th, while the Panthers are ranked 19th).

Despite the loss, Interlachen still got an impressive performance from Kemontae Nixon, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Nixon has been hot, having posted 11 or more boards the last five times he's played.

Even though they lost, Interlachen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newberry to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaleb Woods, who posted eight points along with five assists and four steals. Jacob Green was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Interlachen's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Newberry, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 22-0.

Interlachen does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newberry, they have already played their next matchup, a 75-38 win against Bradford on the 7th.
