Basketball Recap: Bloomington Comes Up Short

Bloomington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss. They came up short against the Lincoln Railsplitters, falling 54-28. While losing is never fun, the Purple Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 538th, while the Railsplitters are ranked 65th).

Frank Sanders was nothing short of spectacular for Lincoln: he went 9 of 11 en route to 20 points along with six boards and three steals. Those 20 points gave Sanders a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karson Komnick, who posted 14 points and four steals.

Bloomington's defeat dropped their record down to 1-24. As for Lincoln, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bloomington won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Glenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lincoln, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll face off against Sacred Heart-Griffin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sacred Heart-Griffin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Lincoln likes a good challenge.
