Softball Recap: Harlingen South Hawks vs. Pace Vikings
Harlingen South waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Pace Vikings with a sharp 15-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-1 back in February.
Lexi Sandoval and Kailee Silva were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Sandoval struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Silva tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Sandoval scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Silva went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Silva hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaylin Mata, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kara Jensen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
