Basketball Game Preview: Exeter Monarchs vs. Washington Union Panthers

Exeter hasn't had much luck against Washington Union recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Exeter Monarchs will head out on the road to square off against the Washington Union Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Exeter is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since January 30, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against Golden West, falling 58-38. The contest marked the Monarchs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Washington Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They lost to Hanford West on the road by a 71-57 margin. One positive for the Panthers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Exeter will need focus on slowing down Allen Ventura, one of several Washington Union players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 15 points. Ventura continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnathan Vega, who scored 13 points.

Exeter's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3. As for Washington Union, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15.

Exeter came up short against Washington Union in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 62-58. Thankfully for Exeter, Jasiah Woods (who went 7 of 14 on his way to 24 points and seven boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
