Basketball Game Preview: Athens Bulldogs vs. Alexander Spartans

The Athens Bulldogs will head out to take on the Alexander Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Athens lost to Meigs at home by a 60-45 margin. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 525th, while the Marauders are ranked 71st).

Alexander played in conference for the first time on Tuesday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They came out on top against River Valley by a score of 57-53 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Alexander's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8. As for Athens, they dropped their record down to 5-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Athens came up short against Alexander in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 42-35. Can Athens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
