Baseball Game Preview: Palo Duro Dons vs. Coronado Mustangs

Palo Duro is 0-3 against Coronado since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. Palo Duro will be playing in front of their home fans against Coronado at 5:00 p.m. Palo Duro will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Palo Duro turned things around against Shallowater on Friday. They came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 8-5.

Meanwhile, Coronado hadn't done well against Lubbock-Cooper recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Coronado skirted past Lubbock-Cooper 5-4.

Coronado's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zarius Martinez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Martinez a new career-high in RBI (two). Another was Matt Garcia, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Coronado has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. Palo Duro's victory bumped their record up to 8-10.

Palo Duro might still be hurting after the 19-1 defeat they got from Coronado in their previous meeting back in March of 2020. Can Palo Duro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
