Basketball Recap: Lincoln County Takes a Loss

Lincoln County played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Wayne Pioneers and fell 65-30. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-9.

Lincoln County's loss came despite strong showings from Arien Cooper and Abby Roy. Cooper posted six points and ten rebounds, while Roy put up six points. That's the most points Roy has posted since back in January of 2024.

Even though they lost, Lincoln County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Lincoln County's record is now 1-8. As for Wayne, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Lincoln County and Wayne should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings. Lincoln County (ranked 89th) will meet Point Pleasant (ranked 619th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Wayne (ranked seventh) will meet Winfield (ranked 41st) at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th.
