Softball Recap: Orion Victorious

While Orion's victory against Hall wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Chargers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Red Devils on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won seven in a row.

Lainey Kunert made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Orion got a great performance from Kendyl Filler as she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. The dominant performance also gave Filler a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

Kunert wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kadence Hammer, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Hammer has posted over her last 12 contests.

Orion's record is now 10-23. As for Hall, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 15 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-24 record this season.

Orion will venture away from home to take on Mercer County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Chargers are facing the Golden Eagles at the right time seeing as the Golden Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Hall does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
