Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Brown Key Part of a Team Effort in Lions Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Morrill challenged Bayard on Tuesday. The Morrill Lions managed a 43-38 victory over the Bayard Tigers. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 58-37 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Morrill's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Brown, who posted 17 points and five steals. Brown is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Ott, who scored eight points in addition to 11 rebounds and three steals.

Morrill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Bayard had strong showings from Shayleigh West, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points along with six boards and four steals, and Shelbie Mckibbin, who went 5 for 11 en route to 13 points and seven steals. Mckibbin has become a key player for Bayard: the team is 5-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 2-3 otherwise.

Morrill is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.5 points per game. As for Bayard, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-4 record.

Morrill will head out to take on Minatare at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Morrill is facing Minatare at the right time seeing as Minatare is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Bayard, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-23 loss against Leyton on the 16th.
