Softball Game Preview: Liberty Redhawks vs. Independence Knights

The Liberty Redhawks will take on the Independence Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty will be strutting in after a victory while Independence will be coming in after a loss.

Liberty is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Heritage on Tuesday as Liberty made off with a 27-2 win. The Redhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Madison Terry, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Anna Reeves was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while going 4-for-5.

Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Independence lost 8-1 to Memorial on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meetings.

Megan McCADDEN was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Liberty, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-4.

Independence's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for Independence, though, as they've only averaged .183. Will they be able to contain Liberty's hitters?

Everything went Liberty's way against Independence when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Liberty made off with a 10-1 win. Will Liberty repeat their success, or does Independence have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
