Baseball Recap: Lakeland Takes a Loss

Lakeland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lewiston Bengals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bengals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 on Saturday.

Jace Taylor was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Taylor wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tadgh Ellwood, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Even though they lost, Lakeland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Lewiston, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Lakeland will square off against Lake City at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lewiston, they will challenge Sandpoint at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
