Basketball Recap: Basic Takes a Loss

Basic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Boulder City Eagles. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Basic lost, don't look at Kenny Williams. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 16 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Kelani Stafford, who posted ten points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Basic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive matches.

Luke Wright was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 16 on his way to 20 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds for Boulder City. With that strong performance, Wright is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Birch, who had eight points and six assists.

Basic's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Boulder City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Basic will square off against Green Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Boulder City, they will face off against Doral Academy Red Rock at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
