Calhoun Academy put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let the North Sunflower Academy Rebels get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Carsen Stegall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Calhoun Academy: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most three hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Stegall was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaden Denton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Parker, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Calhoun Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Cougars coming up. Calhoun Academy is facing Lee Academy at the right time seeing as Lee Academy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for North Sunflower Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against West Memphis Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Sunflower Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: West Memphis Christian has averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
