Softball Recap: Vernon's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After flying high against Lenape Valley on Wednesday, Vernon came back down to earth. The Vikings fell 7-4 to the Sparta Spartans on Thursday. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Miranda Ebbighausen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Abby Mundhenk made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Teagan Ressler, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Sparta, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-9.

Sparta has already played their next matchup (against Roxbury), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Vernon will be paying especially close attention to the Spartans' contest: after the Spartans face off against the Gaels, they'll take on Vernon again at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
