Basketball Recap: Varina Takes a Loss

Varina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 75-20 loss at the hands of the Henrico Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while the Warriors are ranked 74th).

When it comes to explaining why Varina lost, don't look at Solai Coleman. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Coleman has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more boards the last ten times she's played. Makaylen Hilliard also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Varina smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Varina's record is now 2-9. As for Henrico, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.

Varina has already played their next matchup (against Hanover), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Henrico will challenge Mechanicsville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Henrico is facing Mechanicsville at the right time seeing as Mechanicsville is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
