Another reason for the win was Monarch's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Leading the way was Noah Hunziker and his four sacks.
Meanwhile, Silver Creek pushed their score all the way to 33 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 40-33 to Greeley Central. Silver Creek's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it four in a row.
Silver Creek's defeat came about despite a quality game from Cole Rogers, who rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 101 receiving yards and a touchdown. Rogers' longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards. Carter Blair also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Monarch now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Silver Creek, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Monarch beat Silver Creek 31-21 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monarch since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
