Baseball Recap: Monte Vista Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Monte Vista put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Trinidad Miners with a sharp 15-0 win. The Pirates have beaten the Miners the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Miners has come to flipping the script.

Landon Sanchez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Judah Howe was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Azariah Hurtado, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs and one triple.

Monte Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Monte Vista's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Trinidad, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monte Vista will face off against Rye at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates are facing the Thunderbolts at the right time seeing as the Thunderbolts are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Trinidad, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Center at 11:00 a.m. on May 3.
