Basketball Recap: East Central Comes Up Short

On Friday, the East Central Trojans ended up a good deal behind the Westfield Shamrocks and lost 44-28. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 24th).

Despite the loss, East Central saw an underclassman step up: freshman Natalie Stenger posted seven points. Stenger has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Teagan Leihgeber was another key player, putting up four points and seven rebounds.

Westfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Meg Hamilton, who had 11 points. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Van Dyke, who put up nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for East Central and nudges their season record down to 7-7. As for Westfield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6.

East Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-22 win against Beech Grove on the 3rd. As for Westfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-30 victory against Lawrenceburg on the 3rd.
