Basketball Recap: Tara Deese's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Piedmont over Parkwood

If Piedmont was feeling good fresh off their 56-33 takedown of Anson last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Piedmont Panthers took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Parkwood Wolf Pack on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (56), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Piedmont lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tara Deese, who went 6-for-12 en route to 22 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Charleigh Battle, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 20 points and four steals.

Parkwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordan Vaughn, who went 7-for-11 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Vaughn has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. Brinley Parker was another key player, going 5-for-6 en route to 16 points and six rebounds.

Piedmont's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Parkwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season.

Piedmont has already played their next match, a 66-63 loss against West Stanly on the 14th. As for Parkwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-41 win against Central Academy on the 14th.
