Recap: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. Farmville Central Jaguars
Even though the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars have not done well against the Farmville Central Jaguars recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. SouthWest Edgecombe managed a 41-37 win over Farmville Central. That result was just more of the same for these two, as SouthWest Edgecombe also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
SouthWest Edgecombe was led to victory by Kd Collins and A'Chonacey (Chonie) Mabry. Collins scored 20 points along with five steals and two blocks, while Mabry scored 13 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Collins has scored at least a third of SouthWest Edgecombe's points.
Kaydien Joyner and Jamya Saddler certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Joyner dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Saddler scored ten points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Joyner has scored all season. Madalyne Cook was another key contributor, scoring three points.
SouthWest Edgecombe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Farmville Central, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
SouthWest Edgecombe will head out on the road to square off against Greene Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Farmville Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ayden - Grifton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ayden - Grifton has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19.
