Taylorville extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-24 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Mattoon Greenwave. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
As for Mattoon, they moved to 13-18 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
For Mattoon's part, Hanna Griffin tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Griffin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lexi Murdock was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynlee McGraw, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
