Basketball Game Preview: Tocoi Creek Toros vs. Buchholz Bobcats

The Tocoi Creek Toros will square off against the Buchholz Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tocoi Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.

Last Friday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Tocoi Creek made off with a 39-38 victory over Nease. Given the Toros' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Panthers are ranked 141st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tocoi Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Asiana McCreary led the charge by going 5 for 11 on her way to 10 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gabi Iturralde was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Buchholz walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 67-35 win over the Pirates. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.

Tocoi Creek better focus on containing Alessia Chaves-Torres and Kennedy Wyckoff as the pair were huge in Buchholz's win. Chaves-Torres went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points, while Wyckoff went 7 for 16 on her way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Niyah Fillmore, who went 5 of 8 en route to 10 points.

Buchholz has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Tocoi Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.

Tocoi Creek beat Buchholz 61-53 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tocoi Creek since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
