Preview: Ursuline Fighting Irish vs. Chaney Cowboys

Ursuline is 2-8 against Chaney since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ursuline Fighting Irish will be home for the holidays to greet the Chaney Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. Ursuline will be looking to keep their 14-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.

Last Tuesday, Ursuline faced Washington in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ursuline took a 75-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Washington. The loss was Ursuline's first of the season.

Despite the defeat, Ursuline got a solid performance out of Jayden Payne, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. Payne is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. DaShaun Will was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, Ursuline were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington only racked up 23 assists.

Meanwhile, Chaney's 19-9 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were the victim of a rough 53-32 defeat at the hands of Canfield last Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Chaney can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while Canfield is ranked 173rd).

Ursuline's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-1. As for Chaney, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Ursuline beat Chaney 66-54 in their previous matchup back in January. Does Ursuline have another victory up their sleeve, or will Chaney turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
