Basketball Game Preview: Liberty Common Eagles vs. Lyons Lions

Liberty Common is 4-0 against Lyons since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Liberty Common Eagles will be playing at home against the Lyons Lions at 6:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Liberty Common had to suffer through a 47-19 loss at the hands of Highland. The Eagles have struggled against the Huskies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Lyons had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They took down the Falcons 35-19. While the Lions didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Liberty Common better focus on containing Luci Santesteban and Ava Vasquez as the pair were huge in Lyons' win. Santesteban went 7 of 15 en route to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, while Vasquez posted seven points and 20 boards. Those 16 points gave Santesteban a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Leora Hagan, who had six points and five steals.

Lyons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Lyons pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.0 points per game. As for Liberty Common, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Liberty Common beat Lyons 31-21 in their previous matchup back in November of 2017. Will Liberty Common repeat their success, or does Lyons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
