Baseball Recap: Del City Takes a Loss

Del City extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-23 in the process. They lost 13-3 to the Northwest Classen Knights. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Del City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Demarrion Bruton, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Northwest Classen, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-13 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Northwest Classen's side, Jayden Mayfield was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, Mayfield posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Northwest Classen got a massive performance out of Zachary Mockelman, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Mockelman has become a key player for the Knights: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 10-12 otherwise. Jovanny Charqueno was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Del City will venture away from home to challenge Midwest City at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Northwest Classen, they will welcome Classen SAS at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
