Baseball Recap: Veritas Prep Takes a Loss

After flying high against Heritage Academy last Tuesday, Veritas Prep came back down to earth. The Falcons fell 6-3 to the Horizon Honors Eagles on Thursday. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Cade Huseth put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tico Lentz was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Camden Palmquist also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Veritas Prep now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Horizon Honors, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season.

Veritas Prep will challenge Phoenix Country Day at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Horizon Honors, they will face off against Camp Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Cowboys have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.13 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
