Baseball Recap: Fennville Wins Going Away Against Saugatuck

Fennville not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 13-0). They blew past the Saugatuck Trailblazers 11-1. That's the fifth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 12-8 win last Saturday.

Ely Schut made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Fennville is undefeated when Schut posts two or more runs, but 2-17 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Sabala, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Seamus Lynch, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

The win made it two in a row for Fennville and bumps their season record up to 5-17. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Saugatuck, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-16 record this season.
