Basketball Recap: Alexander Takes a Loss

Alexander and San Marcos squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Alexander had to settle for second. They fell just short of the San Marcos Rattlers by a score of 65-62. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 318th, while the Rattlers are ranked 65th).

San Marcos' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Azariah Fennell, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Fennell's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Melayna Perkins, who went 7 of 15 en route to 20 points and five steals.

Alexander's defeat dropped their record down to 23-13. As for San Marcos, they have been performing well recently as they've won 16 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season.

Alexander does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for San Marcos, they will challenge Harlingen at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Harlingen will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something San Marcos surely won't give up without a fight.
