Softball Preview: Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons vs. Henderson County Colonels

The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons will head out to take on the Henderson County Colonels at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Madisonville-North Hopkins, yet to win a game, are hoping to taste some of the success that has characterized Henderson County's (thus far) undefeated season.

Last Friday, Madisonville-North Hopkins came up short against Livingston Central and fell 7-4. That's two games in a row now that the Maroons have lost by exactly three runs.

Mackenzie Stoltz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Sadie Kirk made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Henderson County made easy work of Livingston Central on Saturday and carried off an 18-3 win.

Mackenzie Burczyk was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Burczyk was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Henderson County let Saniya Shields and Maggie Grogan run wild. Shields went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Grogan scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Bennett, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Henderson County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Livingston Central only posted an OBP of .261.

Henderson County pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
