Recap: Cullman Bearcats vs. Decatur Red Raiders

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Cullman Bearcats had no problem doing just that on Monday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 63-62 win over the Red Raiders. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Decatur's loss came despite strong showings from Jadience Smith and Jennifer Mitchell. Smith dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Mitchell scored 16 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Carlee Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

The win got Cullman back to even at 14-14. As for Decatur, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-13 record this season.

Cullman will head out on the road to square off against Hartselle on Wednesday. Hartselle has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Decatur does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
