Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Colbert County

Colbert County proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 12) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Colbert Heights Wildcats. The victory was nothing new for the Indians as they're now sitting on four straight.

Wesley Chaney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxon Willis, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Isaih Carpenter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Colbert County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.4.

Colbert County's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Colbert Heights, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-13.

Colbert County will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
