Baseball Recap: Piner Comes Up Short

Maria Carrillo hit Piner with a six-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Prospectors lost 12-2 to the Pumas. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Prospectors of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2022.

Piner saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Schudel, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Piner's loss dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Maria Carrillo, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piner will head out to challenge Healdsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Greyhounds will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Prospectors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Maria Carrillo, they are taking a road trip to face off against Cardinal Newman at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Pumas' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
