Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Charlee Richter and Logan Rainforth Lead Doniphan-Trumbull to Victory

Doniphan-Trumbull's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They blew past the Gibbon Buffaloes 56-36. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 56-40 back in January.

Doniphan-Trumbull was led to victory by Logan Rainforth and Charlee Richter. Rainforth almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds, while Richter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Richter is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. Lily Elsbury also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Doniphan-Trumbull was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Several Buffaloes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kassandra Trevino, who posted 12 points and seven steals. Trevino is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Sell, who scored ten points along with eight boards and three steals.

With the win, Doniphan-Trumbull broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-16. As for Gibbon, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Doniphan-Trumbull and Gibbon could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Doniphan-Trumbull will take on Central City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 197 places (238 vs. 41). Meanwhile, Gibbon (ranked 262nd) will meet Southern Valley (ranked 47th) at 6:00 p.m. on February 11th.
