Washington Academy waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Mount View Mustangs with a sharp 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

James Welch made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Hennessey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Trevor Shimabukuro also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Washington Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Washington Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mount View, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
