The Stockdale Mustangs will head out to challenge the St. Joseph Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Stockdale will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Stockdale's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past El Diamante 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Stockdale got a great performance from Colton Kaiser as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Stockdale's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brock Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph entered their tilt with Tehachapi on Saturday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 6-3.
Niko Peinado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ashton Bluem was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Santana Covarrubias also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Stockdale pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for St. Joseph, their record now sits at 5-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Stockdale hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Stockdale suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to St. Joseph in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Stockdale avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
