Basketball Game Preview: Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers vs. Cedar Bluffs Wildcats

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers face off against the Cedar Bluffs Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday... Newman Grove/St. Edward is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Newman Grove/St. Edward is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Riverside on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Newman Grove/St. Edward was beaten by Riverside 68-37. The Panthers were down 50-24 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anthony Reader, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Mason Steensnes, who earned ten points.

Meanwhile, Cedar Bluffs didn't have quite enough to beat Heartland Christian on Thursday and fell 63-60. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Cedar Bluffs saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carter Eiring scored 24 points and four steals. The contest was Eiring's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Novotny, who put up 14 points.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-9. As for Cedar Bluffs, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.
