Basketball Recap: New Town Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Riverdale Baptist

On Friday, New Town faced Riverdale Baptist in a battle between two of the state's top teams. New Town were dealt an 80-27 defeat at the hands of the Riverdale Baptist Crusaders. The loss was New Town's first of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riverdale Baptist to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ariana Meriedy, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Meriedy has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Timms, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 21 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, New Town fell to 2-1. As for Riverdale Baptist, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

New Town wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 61-25 victory against C. Milton Wright on the 7th. As for Riverdale Baptist, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 85-13 win against Mastery Charter North - Pickett on the 7th.
